On 11th February 2015 Mark Hooper the Minister for Disabled people announced an increase from 80% to 100% in the average amount of the tariff payment under the Mesothelioma Act 2014 .
This will apply for all applicants who are diagnosed with mesothelioma from 10th February 2015 onwards.
This means that victims of asbestos exposure who have been unable to trace employers who unlawfully exposed them to asbestos dust and/or their employers’ liability insurers will now be able to recover 100% of the average compensation pay-out for mesothelioma, instead of only 80%. This appears to be a recognition by the Government that such people should not have to suffer a discount simply because their exposing employers or their insurers cannot be traced.
