A statement in open court was made in an action for defamation following a comment made about the claimant by the defendant on a television chat show.

A statement was made in open court in an action for slander brought by the claimant manager of celebrities against the defendant, a well-known model and television personality. The claimant represented the defendant’s ex-husband. The defendant had claimed on a television chat show before a live audience that the claimant, while engaged to another man, had had an affair with her ex-husband. The comment was edited out of the broadcast show but the story was widely repeated in the media. The defendant accepted that the statement was completely untrue and apologised to the claimant, as well as paying her substantial damages and her legal fees.
