Bulgarian in £300,000 libel claim against The Express

A Bulgarian businessman has launched a legal battle for libel damages against Express Newspapers and journalist Nick Fagge.

George St Clare and company Synergen Eood are suing over a story headed “Nightmare for Britons buying their dream home abroad” which appeared in the Daily Express in April 2007.

They argue that the story was defamatory and are seeking unlimited damages of more than £300,000 for libel. They are also seeking damages after the original allegations were repeated on the internet, according to a High Court writ.

St Clare and Synergen, trading as Albany Properties, are seeking an injunction banning repetition of the allegations at the centre of their claim. The writ was issued by Humphreys & Co.
