"The Grand Queens Square Petanque Challenge Trophy ~
~ Humphreys & Co stalwarts thwarted by pro Ringers"
My indefatigable informants have unearthed reliable reports from eye-witness sources (who, to protect the combatants, must remain anonymous) that on their first outing in this year's league, despite valiant and vigorous efforts to say nothing of some spectacularly belligerent throws by RJ, the Humphreys Tyros were resoundingly thrashed by the overtly well-trained Robson Rhodes Ringers, aided and abetted by grossly biased arithmetic, to a closing score of 4:13.
Humphreys Tyros' team captain, RF, said it all with his after-match outburst:
"Well, Brian, we was robbed wasn't we, know what I mean?"
